Quick answer
Astro is a free, open-source web framework: developers write the site in code and host it anywhere, often on a free plan. Webflow is a hosted visual builder, $15 a month without a CMS and $25 with it, billed yearly. Choose Astro when developers own the site; choose Webflow when designers and marketers do.
Astro and Webflow both produce fast marketing sites, but for different teams. Astro is a framework: pages are written in code, content comes from Markdown or a headless CMS, and the site is deployed to any host. Webflow is a visual builder where layout, CMS and hosting live in one product.
When I checked on 29 October 2026, Webflow was $15 a month on Basic and $25 on Premium with the CMS, billed yearly. Astro is MIT-licensed and free; it joined Cloudflare on 16 January 2026 and stays platform-agnostic.

Choose Astro if…
- Developers will build and maintain the site
- Content lives in Markdown, a repository or a headless CMS
- You want to host anywhere, including free plans
- You need integrations or logic a builder cannot do
Choose Webflow if…
- Designers should control layout without code
- Marketing edits pages and CMS content every week
- You want hosting, CMS and forms in one bill
- Nobody wants to own a codebase
The honest verdict
The question is who edits the site next month. If it is a developer, Astro is free, fast and flexible. If it is a designer or marketer, Webflow saves them waiting on a developer for every change.
For a startup marketing site edited by a non-technical team, I usually suggest Framer over both, because it is quicker to work in; for a site that needs logins and data, a framework such as Next.js fits better than either.

Common questions
Astro vs Webflow, answered
In software, yes: Astro is free and open source, while Webflow was $15 to $25 a month billed yearly on 29 October 2026. The real cost of Astro is developer time for every change a builder would let a marketer make.
Yes, if it is connected to a headless CMS they can use. Without one, edits mean changing code, which is why Astro suits teams with developers.
Both can produce fast pages. Astro ships very little JavaScript by default; Webflow sites are fast when built carefully. Content, images and scripts decide speed more than the tool.
Yes, as a rebuild. Webflow CMS collections export as CSV, pages are rebuilt in code, and every changed URL needs a permanent redirect.
