Quick answer
Webflow is a visual builder with hosting and a CMS, $25 a month for a CMS site billed yearly, that marketers can edit. Next.js is a free React framework developers code in, hosted anywhere. Choose Webflow for a marketing site a non-technical team runs; choose Next.js when the site needs logins, data or logic a builder cannot handle.
Webflow and Next.js answer the same question from opposite sides. Webflow lets designers build visually and marketers edit content, with hosting included. Next.js is a framework: developers write the site in React, choose a CMS and a host, and can build anything from a marketing site to a full application.
When I checked on 29 October 2026, Webflow's Basic plan was $15 a month and Premium, with the CMS, $25, billed yearly. Next.js is free and open source; its latest release was 16.4 on 6 October 2026. On Vercel, the company behind Next.js, the free Hobby plan is for personal, non-commercial use and Pro is $20 per developer seat a month.

Choose Webflow if…
- The site is marketing: pages, a blog, landing pages
- Marketers should publish without a developer
- You want hosting, CMS and forms on one bill
- Nobody wants to maintain a codebase
Choose Next.js if…
- People log in, store data or run workflows on the site
- The site shares components or data with your product
- You have, or will hire, developers to maintain it
- You want to own the code and choose any host
The honest verdict
If the site is a marketing site, Webflow gets you there faster and keeps developers out of every copy change. If the site is part of the product, with accounts, dashboards or data, Next.js is the right foundation and a builder will hold you back.
Remember the upkeep on the code side. Next.js moved to a formal security release process in July 2026 and ships scheduled security releases, plus out-of-band fixes when needed, so someone has to apply them. I build marketing sites in visual tools and products in Next.js; the line between them is whether the site has logic.

Common questions
Webflow vs Next.js, answered
For apps and sites with logins, data or custom logic, yes. For a marketing site a non-technical team edits, Webflow is usually the better choice because it needs no developer for changes.
Yes. Next.js is open source. You pay for hosting: Vercel's Hobby plan is free for personal, non-commercial use and Pro was $20 per developer seat a month on 29 October 2026; other hosts, such as Cloudflare, also run Next.js sites.
As of 29 October 2026, billed yearly: Basic $15 a month without a CMS, Premium $25 a month with the CMS, and separate Ecommerce plans from $29 a month.
Yes, when it is built with a headless CMS. The content is edited in the CMS and the site rebuilds. Layout changes still need a developer, which is the main trade-off against Webflow.
Yes, as a rebuild. Webflow exports CMS collections as CSV, pages are rebuilt in code, and every changed URL gets a permanent redirect.
