Design for data and analytics products
Dashboard and product design for data and analytics companies
For analytics, BI and data products: dashboards that answer the question a user opened them with, charts everyone can read, and a website that shows the product instead of describing it. Fixed price.

The problem I solve
- ✕Dashboards with twenty charts and no answer to the question the user opened them with
- ✕Statuses and series told apart by colour alone, which many users cannot read
- ✕A marketing site that promises "insights" instead of showing the product
Quick answer
A dashboard should answer the question a user opened it with, so design starts from those questions, not from the data. Charts need labels or patterns beside colour and 3:1 contrast under WCAG 2.1. Design is $1,999 for 14 days; built tools start from $1,999.
How I approach it
An analytics product is judged in the first session: can a new user get from their data to an answer? I start from the questions your users actually bring, then design each view to answer one of them, with a clear order: the headline number, the trend behind it, then the breakdown for anyone who wants to dig.
Charts are built to be read by everyone. WCAG 2.1 says colour must not be the only way information is shown, so series get direct labels, markers or patterns, and the parts of a chart needed to understand it get at least 3:1 contrast against what sits next to them. Data products also live in the states most designs skip: no data yet, a sync still running, partial results, a failed connection. Those are designed up front, not improvised in code.
The website follows the same rule. Analytics buyers want to see the product, so the site leads with real screens and a clear path to a demo or a trial, rather than abstract talk about insights.

Common questions
Questions, answered
Design only is $1,999 for 14 days on my product design sprint: every screen and state, a component library and a clickable prototype. Built and working, an internal tool or web app starts from $1,999 in 21 days, and a SaaS MVP from $2,500 in 30 days.
Two WCAG 2.1 rules do most of the work: colour must not be the only way information is shown, so add labels, markers or patterns, and the parts of a chart needed to understand it need at least 3:1 contrast against adjacent colours. Text needs 4.5:1.
As few as answer the questions users open it with. Start from a list of those questions, give each view one job, and move everything else into drill-downs or reports. A dashboard that tries to show everything usually answers nothing.
Yes, they are part of the scope. Analytics products spend much of a new user's first session in them: no data connected yet, an import running, partial results. Designing those states is often what gets a trial to its first useful chart.
