Quick answer: Hire me as a mobile app designer in one of two ways. Design and build: an iOS and Android app on one React Native codebase, designed, built and submitted to both stores in 30 days for $2,500. Or design only: the product design sprint covers mobile screens, states, a component library and a prototype in 14 days for $1,999.
Who this is for, and who it is not
This page is for hiring a mobile app designer for a defined piece of work. It is not a job listing.
- Founders who need an app on both stores. Designed, built and submitted in 30 days.
- Teams with mobile developers. Design only, handed over as an organised Figma file.
- Apps that feel like a port. Screens designed once and checked against both platforms' conventions.
It is the wrong buy in these cases:
- Heavy graphics, AR or games. Native is the right call, and I will say so.
- Sustained background processing. Such as continuous location or audio, where native gives more control.
- A large custom backend. That is a separate project with its own number.
What the 30 days look like
The ios + android in 30 days sprint, $2,500, runs on a schedule written down before you commit:
| When | What happens |
|---|---|
| Days 1 to 3 | Scope lock. One feature list, agreed for both platforms. Parity is the default; anything platform-specific gets decided now rather than discovered in week four. |
| Days 4 to 12 | Design. Screens designed once and checked against both platforms' conventions, so neither feels like a port of the other. |
| Days 13 to 24 | Build. One codebase, both targets. Test builds go to TestFlight and Play's internal track around day 21. |
| Days 25 to 28 | Two-platform testing. Real devices on both sides. This is where cross-platform work earns or loses its reputation, so it gets proper time. |
| Days 29 to 30 | Submit to both. Both listings finished and both builds submitted. Apple's review takes one to three days; Google's is usually faster. |
What the $2,500 sprint includes
- One React Native codebase serving iOS and Android.
- Full product design, checked on both platforms.
- Test builds on TestFlight and Play's internal track by week three.
- Both store listings written, designed and submitted.
- Push notifications, analytics and crash reporting on both.
- Source code and design files, yours at handover.
- 30 days of support after launch.
Design only is the product design sprint, $1,999 for 14 days, which covers mobile and desktop where the product needs both. More on mobile app design and hiring an app developer.
What hiring a mobile app designer costs
| Route | Typical price | Source |

| UI designers on marketplaces | $25 to $150+ an hour; complex application interfaces $15,000 to $50,000+ | Contra's UI designer guide |
| UX designers on Upwork | $25 to $39 an hour | Upwork, read 28 October 2026 |
| UI/UX agencies | Most $25 to $49 an hour; UX projects typically over $10,000 | Clutch, updated 21 September 2026 |

App store developer accounts are separate and paid to Apple and Google.
How to vet any mobile app designer
Whoever you hire, check these before you sign:
- Apps on the stores. Ask for apps you can download, not only screens.
- Both platforms. Navigation, gestures and controls that feel right on iOS and on Android.
- States past the demo. Empty, loading, error and offline states designed, not left to the developer.
- Touch targets and accessibility. Controls large enough to tap, text that scales, and contrast that passes.
- Who builds it. If it is someone else, ask what the handover includes.
Design only, or design and build
If you have mobile developers, design only is the right buy: every screen and state, a component library and a prototype, for $1,999 in 14 days. If you do not, the 30-day sprint designs and builds both apps and submits them to the stores for $2,500, so there is no handoff to manage.
One codebase for iOS and Android
The mobile sprint builds both apps from one React Native codebase. Test builds reach TestFlight and Play's internal track around day 21, and both listings are submitted on days 29 and 30; Apple's review takes one to three days, and Google's is usually faster. App developer covers the build side in more detail.

Mobile app designer questions
How much does it cost to hire a mobile app designer?
Contra's guide puts UI designers at $25 to $150 or more an hour, and complex application interfaces at $15,000 to $50,000 or more. Mine: design only for $1,999 in 14 days, or design and build for iOS and Android for $2,500 in 30 days.
Do you design for both iOS and Android?
Yes. Screens are designed once and checked against both platforms' conventions, so neither feels like a port of the other.
Can you build the app too?
Yes. The mobile sprint builds both apps from one React Native codebase and submits them to the App Store and Google Play in 30 days for $2,500.
What do I get with design only?
Every screen and state, a component library, a clickable prototype and an organised Figma file, plus a handover call with your developers.
When is React Native the wrong choice?
For apps built on heavy graphics, AR or games, or that need sustained background processing such as continuous location or audio. Native is the better call there.
