Designer and developer. I design and build these projects myself.
Usually the prototype works and the production basics are missing: secrets in the browser, database rules switched off, auth edge cases, payment webhooks and error handling. Most of these apps can be fixed rather than rebuilt; I take them to production as a fixed-price sprint from $1,999.
The usual causes
- API keys or service keys shipped to the browser
- Database row-level security off, so any user can read other users' data
- Sign-up, password reset and email verification only working on the happy path
- Payments that work in test mode but miss webhooks in live mode
- No error tracking, so failures are invisible until a customer complains
- Environment settings that differ between preview and production
What to check first
Check the security items before anything else, because they are the ones that can hurt your users. Then add error tracking so you can see what is really failing, rather than guessing from screenshots.
After that, list the flows that must never break (sign-up, pay, the core action) and test each one in production with a real account.
Fix or rebuild
Fix it if the data model is sound and the problems are in the edges. Rebuild only the parts where the structure itself is wrong. A full rewrite is rarely the right first move; you lose what already works.
- Price
- From $1,999 fixed
- First step
- Security, then error tracking
- Code
- Yours, in your repository
When this is not the right fit
If the app has no users yet and the idea is still moving, keep iterating in the builder; production hardening pays off once people depend on it.
