What can you get for a $300 to $500 website budget?

Asked by small business owners who needed a multi-page site and had $300 to $500 to spend.

Designer and developer. I design and build these projects myself.

Honestly, a custom multi-page site is not available at $300 from anyone who will still be around to support it. For that budget, a good template on Framer, Squarespace or Wix that you edit yourself is the right call. At $700, I design and build one custom landing page in 5 days.

What $300 to $500 buys well

  • A premium template and a year of hosting
  • A domain and a professional email address
  • Good photos of your work or products
  • One clear page: what you do, for whom, prices, how to contact you

Where small budgets go wrong

Paying someone a few hundred dollars for a ten-page site usually means a template with your name on it and nobody to call when it breaks. You would be better off with the template and the money left over.

Spend first on the parts that win customers: clear words, real photos and an easy way to contact you. Design polish comes later.

When to step up

Once the site is the thing bringing in customers, a custom build pays for itself. My landing page is $700 in 5 days and a full website is $1,999 in 14 days, both fixed.

When this is not the right fit

If you need online ordering or bookings, add the platform's own tools (Square, Shopify, Calendly) to the template rather than paying for custom code.
