Quick answer: Most Framer sites use Cloudflare only for DNS: add the A records and CNAME Framer shows when you connect the domain. Framer also documents proxying through Cloudflare for infrastructure or compliance needs, which requires Pro with the Advanced Hosting add-on, or Enterprise.
How to connect Cloudflare to Framer
- In Framer, open Site Settings, Hosting, Domains, and add your domain
- In Cloudflare DNS, add the A records and CNAME Framer shows
- Wait for Framer to confirm the connection, then publish
- Only for a proxy: follow Framer's Cloudflare proxy guide, which starts from a Framer subdomain and a canonical URL
Good to know
- Framer says reverse proxying is only recommended for specific infrastructure or policy needs
- Advanced Hosting is an add-on on Pro and included on Enterprise
Three ways to share a domain with Framer
| Setup | How it works | Needs |
|---|---|---|
| Subdomains | The Framer site on example.com, the app on app.example.com | DNS records only |
| Framer Multi Site | Framer serves another project or an external HTTPS site at a path, keeping the visitor's URL | Rules in Site Settings, Hosting; a target Framer project needs a paid plan |
| Reverse proxy | Your host, such as Vercel, Netlify or Cloudflare, sits in front with Framer as the origin | Framer Pro with the Advanced Hosting add-on, or Enterprise |
Rewrite rules support wildcards, named parameters and capture groups, and run in the order listed, so put specific paths before broad ones.
